Even though Albert was never seen as a good godfather-he was the guy who did what had to be done. His ways were brutal and he was adequately named "The Chief Executioner" for Murder Inc , when Carlo Gambino suceeded Albert he was smarter-but not many other's have lived up to his legendary rip-em-up status in the killing fields. Anastasia was also one of the first to get active into Brooklyn's 'dock' operations.

Well, Carlo Gambino brought the Gambino family's earning way up. $500 million a year. That is a crapload of money for the family. He added alot of new crews, so they had 21 crews. And he also was able to keep earnings up high and keep the family together unlike the last two Bosses (Paul Castellano broke the family into two parts, Manhatten and Brooklyn. And John Gotti brought the familys earnings down from $500 million a year to $50 million a year) so I guess lacking all that toughness was ok....well, if moneys your interest

In the end Albert was clipped in a barber shop ordered by Meyer Lansky-but the order was aimed at Costello. For sure Anastasia's (a.k.a.The Mad Hatter) brutality got him his death sentence but that's because he broke a golden rule-Bugsy said it best "We just kill each other". At the end of the day-I respect the thrill of the chase-Moneys an inevitability. I don't sanction Anastasia's 'kill em all' attitude-but his goal was to get Luciano and Costello taking over the two factions headed up by Joe (the boss) Masseria and Salvatore Maranzano-this achieved-Mangano was his. Check the archives dude-this is one of the major points in the American mafiaso history books-adequately named "The turn around".

You know your stuff Elle-would you have any advice for anyone looking into researching the mafia or any other syndicates Firstly-don't believe everything you hear or read-human nature is such: "If I sound like I know what I'm talking about then thats what it is"-in other words people make up s**t just to be part of something-my suggestion is that you read the Omerta articles that Wize has researched and written-I'm not just plugging this site, the reason why I post here is that I respect the information given out- as alot of the info I have researched here is fact.

My other suggestion-and most importantly-read up on Sicilian-Italian Culture. Our culture is what makes us who we are-re: FOOOOD, drink, music, BUSINESS= our mindset.

Anastasia was a putz. Whether authorized by him or not his underboss Frank Scalice was selling memberships for $50,000 a time to wiseguy wannabe's. That's a big no no. Even if Anastasia didn't even know about it (which I doubt) he was an idiot for letting that go under his control.

Absolutely-it's a prime example that you can have all the muscle and murderous intent in the world-but without intellect and street smarts your nothing
