Have you ever thought how a mafia boss is treated in prison? You know you look at Al Capone prison cell in Georgia a long time ago ,and you would say royalty, but when they sent him to Alcatraz the man went insane his firdt week there ,and he was sent to the hole.If you think about he had it all money, power , and freedom , but when he sat foot off that boat and entered the doors of Azkaban he must of felt the biggest change of his life.

Besides that with Al Capone. I have heard the mob bosses get treated like royalty (I knew a guy who delivered fish to the prisons)

Each case is different so it's hard to generalise. John Gotti was treaten pretty badly in one of the most harshest prisons in the US. In solitary confinement for about 22/23 hours a day. He was even known to have been beaten badly by a black man. Something you would never imagine happen to the Dapper Don or anyone of his authority.
Henry Hill tells an absolutely different story in his book Wiseguy. Himself and his boss, Paulie Vario only a Capo in the Lucchese Family, when imprisoned they lived a totally different life to other inmates. They were well looked after and lived in areas seperate to the normal criminals. One such story he tells is when there was a prison riot, the Wiseguys were actually protected by the prison guards and moved onto a safer location.

That fight with the black guy was a rumour - it could still be true...But if i remember right the story was, yes the black guy hit him, but the move didnt go on without revenge. Gotti had the last say.......or so the story goes. Either way, as Turi mentioned. I am sure the circumstance varies.

They usually send most mobsters to a high security prison in Kentucky. I find it wierd they didnt send him there.

How long was Capone on Alcatraz? Did he die there, or did they move him when it was closed down?
