If you could choose just one mobster to run for president who would it be, and if you choose that person do you think he will corrupt America. Also do you think that person will be asssasinated.

Weird question but very intriging. There's only one that could ever come to mind for me and he was known as the Primeminister of the Underworld. Frank Costello. He already had good political connections and was probably the msot politically connected mobster ever. He prefered to sort disputes out without violence and to me never seemed to suit the mould of a gangster.
He'd be corruptable but no more than any other president that reigned.

It all boils down to interest my dear C....It depends if the elected president mafia man best served not only the people but the mafia as well in the position of power that he would be in....Besides most members os the mafia I don't beleive are no more corrupt than the rest of us...and politics in itself is already a corrupt institution....

Well the Bush family has reputed connectiosn to drug smuggling and all the south and Central American cartels...read up on the Iran Contra affair from about 10-15 years ago, they were moving massive amounts of cocaine into the country...of course thats not been "confirmed" and the cartels arn't really the mafia...

Well, that is definitely an 'interesting' question to pose. Before I read anybody's replies to Coletti's question, I was thinking in my head "none other than Charles 'Lucky' Luciano. He created and was deemed head of the Commission (of the 5 Crime Families), which in many ways was created using the United Nations as a guideline. The head of each family had a voice, they voted upon issues, etc. Now, if the President is the Policeman of the World, then Lucky Luciano would have to be the Policeman of the Underworld. He was the first gangster to prohibit any hits on any government or law-enforcement officers. There was rumor of one of his soldiers, following his indictment, attempting a hit on the detective that put him away. Luciano did not okay the order, there was rumor the soldier would do it anyway, so Luciano ordered the soldier to be hit from his prison cell. Also, while in prison, the United States Navy, during the war, made a proposition of Lucky. You take all your regimes out of the New York ports and let the Navy step in, then rather have you serve your life sentence here, we will deport you back to Italy and you can never return to America again. Of all gangsters, I don't know any who loved America more than Lucky Luciano, so he moved out his regimes and gave control back to the US government. However, I then read Turi's reply. Now Frank Costello would be another great candidate. He did have the judges, politicians, police force, and FBI in his pocket, and I agree he did not seem to be much of a mobster, but you must remember the Joseph "the Chin" Gigante hit attempt on him, ordered by Vito Genovese. The hit that caused his retirement from the Mafia . . . Gigante said, "Hey Costello, this is for you" before firing, which turned Costello's head, saving his life. The bullet grazed his head, wrapped around the inside of his head and came out the other side. He lived, but retired as boss. Now we can't have a President who will retire because of an assassination attempt. Ronald Reagan was shot, but he did not retire. This is the sign of a leader. I'm going with Lucky Luciano.

My fault! I screwed up in my last post! Not Joseph Gigante, "Vincent" Gigante. It was late, I was tired. He was an interesting boss though, you got to admit. Acting, or apparently acting, to be clinically insane.
